Photos of Matthew Charlton Chinese Slate Quarry

Our Quarry in the Shaanxi Province of Central China has been operational since 2005. We have spent many years searching for the perfect slate which is of the highest quality. We have invested heavily in the quarry and have also helped to enhance the life of the local community by providing work for over 20 people. Other local community projects have included help with the funding of a new school next to our quarry and new roads and infrastructure to the remote village.

Cutting the raw material into the right sized blocks before splitting

Splitting of slate is always done by hand, many companies have tried to use machines to do the job, however the quality and consistency is always best done the traditional way by hand.
